A good night's catnap
Danged if I don't seem to have caught up on some angst-deprived sleep, myself. In bed before 10 last night, up around 9 this morning. Wow.
Of course, even with a 3mg melatonin on top of a couple of pressed-ham sandwiches on top of a few adult beverages, there is no sleeping straight through the night, not with the middle-of-the-night cat games that now take place around and on the bed.
Eames acts just like Ice-T did when he was her age: "Fighting" my feet under the covers, waking me up. Skulking from the foot of the bed up betwixt me and Dr. ER.
And I've even caught the little bitch sneakin' up on me to try to steal my breath!
What fun. We are not cat people. We keep repeating it. We are not cat people. Join in now. We are not cat people. WE ARE NOT CAT PEOPLE.
Sigh. Proof, this is, that anybody can be livin' more or less respectable lives one minute and wake up one day on the wrong side of the cat tracks. :-)
We love our cats. God gave us cats. We are not cat people!

We have, unfortunately, had to banish our two cats (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern) to the first floor at night (using a child gate on the stairs) because they've just gotten too annoying in their old age. These days they just wander the house, happy as can be, yowling their fool heads off. That's behavior that is not especially conducive to sleeping. We are cat people, but even we have our cat-limits.
We tried the squirt gun approach, squirting them when they made noise at night, but then they learned to hide directly under the middle of the bed and yowl there, where the evil water couldn't reach them.

You're never cat people, you are simply the people your cats have. And they are moderately grateful for you as long as you keep the food bowl full.
Nope. Rosencrantz is red, and Guildenstern is is black and white (looks like he's wearing a tux with gloves and spats.) They're from the same litter, but in addition to their different colors, their faces and body types are quite different. I suspect they have different daddy-kitties, as mommy-kitties can be impregnated by multiple males in a single litter.
And why of course, there are pictures, so nice of you to ask. :)

ER: I'm definitely a cat person, but their night-time shenanigans are enough to drive a saint to curse.
Alan: Those are two very handsome cats!

Twix gets a chance every once in a while to try sleeping with me, but when she starts attacking various body parts, she gets banished for a few weeks.
Alan -- beautiful cats, and great photography! :)

Geeez, now they'll be completely impossible to live with when they read that.

As ER and regulars to this blog know, I'm not a cat person. If I were, it would only be in regard to the critters being moving targets.
But DCup said it best. You don't have to be a cat person. They pick you. My in-laws keep about 30 cats on the farm, most of which are wild as all get out but keep the place free of mice and such.
They've got one "garage" cat, MilkShake, so named by my daughter, an that's as close to a house cat as they get. My father-in-law, like me, doesn't believe in house critters. Keep 'em outside all the damn time, I say.
But who does MilkShake love to love on? Grandpa and me.
Damned if I can figure it out. You'd think the number of times I've scooted the stinky thing with my foot that he'd get the idea, but he comes back every time I'm there.

"WE ARE NOT CAT PEOPLE"
D-cup knows, "We" do not pick our "Cat Status".
Nor do they, the individual cats, pick us.
We are assigned to them by the great cat goddess Baset. She sits on her throne in Bubastis and selects humans to serve her children. We are their staff, their subjects, their sevants. Once we were their prey, their toys, their......
You and Dr. ER are blessed more than most for you have two Black Cats.
Once, it is told, that Cats were the reality of the cosmos and man was their prey. Man learned to dream and through his dreams changed reality, past, present, and future to a people centered universe. But Baset still persisted, and she is teaching her children to dream, to undo, that which has been done by man.
See Sandman's, "Dream of a Thousand Cats". Enjoy!

It's Sekhmet, you pagan! :)
Cute felines Alan, and the names are great. Seen the movie "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead?"
My young'uns are into the book series "The Warriors." all about cat clans, fortunately they are content with just the canine at the house.
Due to allergies, my childhood cat, Kit Kat, had to be mostly outdoors, but the gifts he left on our back porch were memorable (including, once, a rabbit.)

No Doc, Sekmet is but a lion, a lessor goddess, of Egypt's latter times.
Baset is Goddess of All Cats for all times.

Yup, that's where they got their names. My husband is quite a fan of the movie.
