'Black panties with an angel's face'? 'Angel flying too close to the ground'? 'Entertaining angels unawares'?
So, what's y'alls' take on angels?

On Facebook, ER took the Who is your Guardian Angel? quiz and the result is Michael.
"Who is like God," "Like unto God," "Who is like the Divine" -- The first Angel created by God, Michael is the leader of all the Archangels and is in charge of protection, courage, strength, truth and integrity. Michael protects us physically, emotionally and psychically. He also oversees the lightworker's life purpose. His chief function is to rid the earth and its inhabitants of the toxins associated with fear. Michael carries a flaming sword that he uses to cut through etheric cords and protects us from Satan and negative entities. When he's around you may see sparkles or flashes of bright blue or purple light. Michael is helping if you find yourself under psychic attack or if you feel you lack commitment, motivation and dedication to your beliefs, courage, direction, energy, vitality, self-esteem, worthiness. Michael helps us to realize our life's purpose and he's invaluable to lightworkers helping with protection, space clearing and spirit releasement. Michael conquered the fallen Angel Satan, was in the Garden of Eden to teach Adam how to farm and care for his family, spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai and in 1950 he was canonized as Saint Michael, "the patron of Police Officers," because he helps with heroic deeds and bravery. Michael also has an incredible knack for fixing electrical and mechanical devices, including computers and automobiles. Michael helps us to follow our truth without compromising our integrity and helps us to find our true natures and to be faithful to who we really are. Michael's message is dont be afraid to stand for what you believe in and to fight for what you desire in life!!
Well, that's nice.

When performing official duties in the Bible, angels are depicted horrifying creatures that bring fear and trembling to those who observe them unmasked. On the other hand, they can disguise themselves (with Abram and Sarai, Jacob, Lot) and appear unthreatening..
Beyond that, really don't think about them all that much.

In the Bible, they usually start out saying, "Fear not!" which is a cluse. :-)
I think about them a lot. Either God God's Self or some angels have to have carpel tunnel syndrome from keeping me out of trouble so long. :-)

angels in the bible is best translated as "messenger." that's it.
any metaphysical definition borders on supersitition and absurdity.

Scripture tells us we are created a little less then the angels, and they are depicted several times in both Old and New Testament. So angels can be viewed, I think, as extensions of the Divine Will, messengers, protectors and warrrios. I believe there are guardian angels, as well as angels that assist as needed wherever God sends them.

I'm pretty much with the black panties crowd.
Angels are apocalyptic tropes speaking to our anxtious and inchoate experience of the end of meaning. Interesting that angels appear around the incarnation narratives: God in flesh overwhelms human constructs of meaning.
For me, the angelic experience is a more of a blakean experience, a zen experience, a string theory experience of connection with a cosmic existence.
In scriptural style, I prefer the Wisdom literature's experience of Sophia to angelic formations.
In other words, angels are literary formations that represent the cataclysm or the imminent idea of cataclysm. Sophia is the world's sometimes weary sometimes beatific accumulated gnosis.
Yes, DRLBJ, I said gnosis.
I prefer DrLJB and Bloom's gnosis to CBSs "touched by an angel" American prairie hysteria over rumors of indians nearby.
And black panties are most definitely repositories of accumulated gnosis.
(ah, multivalence!)

I recommend a good study Bible and a concordance. Not real big on pegging every thought to a specific verse, unless a given thought is about a specific verse per se. But, the others can give citations if they'd like.
