Rooster Cogburn had an orange tabby cat named General Sterling Price, for the Rebel general from Missouri, in 'True Grit'

LOL! FIll your hands, you son-of-a-bitch! That's the best line from a John Wayne movie. By a light-year.

Well, it's about time you admitted it. Cat man.

Cat person. Singular. "Cat." ... Damn it. OK, OK. Two. That's all. ... Crap. Bird just rescued a small black kittycritter she named Juno. OK. THAT'S ALL! Three cats.

No mas!

"Mr. Rat, I have a writ here says you're to stop eating Chin Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now it's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of the same. ... See, doesn't pay any attention to me."

So he shoots the rat.

Great flick. :-)

You're dealing with the loss of your Bird to another man pretty well, I'd say. Focus on another relationship that remains and revalue it ever higher.

But I, for one, am getting tired of the cats.

(Do I hear people cheering? Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma... why do I hear cheering? )

Hey, now! ... Cats are leetle peeps dressed up in kitty outfits!

Being marginalized, Jesus loves 'em.

Jesus loves cats! :-)

OK, maybe you're not handling things well.

Dickell's.

Dickel. Cana. Wedding.

So do you remember why the cat was named General Sterling Price?

No'm.

Well Rooster was a originally a store clerk from Ohio and fought for the Union. The cat was so contrary or timid that he wouldn't fight anything or try to catch the rats and mice. So Rooster named him General Price because Price lost all of his battles and/or retreated at the wrong time. At the end of the war Price even ran off to fight for Maximilian in Mexico. Price was the General of lost causes. But even so named, the cat was the one still in charge of everything according to Rooster.

Now that is a cat person.

Tonight I'll end up in Weston, Missouri. One of Price's defeats was a battle for the river port there. So when there I will raise a glass to Rooster's ginger cat General Sterling Price.

LOL. Too cool. Y'all have fun.

:)

Cat person, cat person, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyaaaaah!

:P

If I named one of our cats after a general, I think it would be McClellan. They just sit around and do nothing most of the time, so it seems appropriate.

Excellent!

Let's see, Ice-T is loyal to a fault, easily spooked, overweight but not lethargic, and generally effective when he does what he does but he doesn't do much but run around.

Somebody who knows Civil War generals better than I do is gonna have to name him. :-)

Civil War generals are good, but I always thought that Dickens' characters were far better a source for cat names.

Out Patch, BTW, is kind of like Stonewall Jackson running up and down the Valley, never pinned down, managing to fight off larger, slower forces. She inevitably wins every battle with our St. Bernard, Dreyfus. Poor dog.

Ice_T sounds like General Winfield Scott.

I'm happy to know how General Sterling Price got his name. Thanks for posting that!
