An ER still life, on the road

In the passenger seat of my Mazda, comin' back from Tulsa. Fair sampling of ER things.

Rocky Patel cigars, a belated birthday gift from my brother, who I met at Chimi's, a Sonoran Mexican restaurant.

Coffee cup from the Cattlemen's Steakhouse in OKC.

Koop CD "Koop Islands."

A newspaper still in its plastic sleeve.

Printed Mapquest directions to Chimi's,

Ear piece from my freshly broken pair of Oklahoma State sunglasses.

Nothing profound. Just some ER stuff on a laid-back Sunday. :-)

Beautiful modernism. A pure American poetry.

Like Gerald Murphy or Charles Demuth's The Figure 5 in Gold.
Sigh. Someone else for me to read up on now. Demuth -- and William Carlos Williams! :-)

If if either is as dreary as Cheever, that's it: it's back to HBNF for good!
Well, one, no one should be allowed to remain a natural born US student and get to 45 without knowing Demuth and WCW.

And, two, you can look up representative stuff for them in five minutes on this television-telegraph machine.

If you can take time for Townes Van Zant and Steve Earle, you got time for this:

so much depends
a red wheel
glazed with rain
beside the white
Thanks to Dr. ER, I dig W.C.W.

LOL, he had me at "icebox."

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
for breakfast.

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.
It's Demuth I need to get to know; his relationship with W.C.W. gives me impetus.
Demuth was a hobbled diabetic who lived with his mother for most of his life in Lancaster, PA, where I had a parish. I've been in his house, which serves as a foundation for exhibiting his art.
Very cool. ... Lancaster: isn't that where young Luke is seminarianating? I b'lieve tis so.
This is no joke; your photo looks to be true to American modernism with an Oklahoman authenticity.

Its resonant.

So I'm not just referencing for the shine you guys begrudgingly give me.
Well thanks. It did catch my own objectively self-aware eye. The Koop CD, which might seem out of place, actually lends it authenticity. The *light* -- which doesn't translate well in the pic -- is what drew my attention to it.
Nifty. Looks like a good way to spend an evening. Glad you're enjoying the Koop!

Verification word: "laters"! (Must have been meant for Alan)
