Even better example, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, who severely injured his right leg in Judo, such that it was essentially useless. Went on to master my first style, Shorin-Ryu Karate, and trained his left leg to do incredibly forceful speed kicks, went professional and retired with a win/fight ratio of 23/23.
Fast read. But very well and intelligently written. Excellent description, which puts you THERE, wherever there happens to be. I'm eager to pick it up, which is why it's my current treadmill book!
Maybe a third through it; the main characters seem tragic, less dimensional than the writing, which might have been purposeful; they seem strained and the opposite of caricatures: somewhat underdrawn, which might have been the intended effect.
