Jack Handy (snicker) couldn'ta said it better

"Masturbation can sometimes be wrong and it can sometimes not. If you masturbate thinking about how pretty the flowers are and how you want a puppy, essentially that's not wrong. But most times, that is not the case. I believe that when one masturbates a high percentage of the time they are fantasizing about a sexual partner therefore making masturbation lust. Lust, as the Bible states, is a sin. But masturbation is something that people in general should stay away from because it's hard not to lust whilst doing it."

Words of wisdom and inspiration from FSTDT.

Jus' a little somethin' to kick start yer Monday!

"If you masturbate thinking about how pretty the flowers are and how you want a puppy, essentially that's not wrong."

Ah, er, puppy? Not wrong? That reminds me of an episode of "Nip' Tuck" were the new doc had an encounter with the couch in his new office. With the couch mind you, not on it.
I'm with drlobojo on this one. If one is pleasuring oneself while thinking about flowers and puppies, I would be far more concerned than if one were so doing while thinking about, say, an adult human being.

So the message is: Steer clear of masturbation unless you are really perverted?

I've always been of the Woody Allen opinion when it comes to this particular practice. Beyond that, I really don't have an opinion.
And NOW I think of a good joke . . .

Maybe to give one's day's beginning a hand?

Yeah, too late by half.
That reminds me: What the Woody Allen thing?
It's a line from, I think, Annie Hall. "Don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone I really care about."
Should the day come when ER asks the Oklahoma Association for UCC ministry to be ordained, you think they will search through his blog?

uh oh.
Piety is not one of my strong suits.
OK, Dr. ER just wandered in here with some papers in her hand, reading grant proposals by profs at a university that shall remain nameless, grumbling about one that has to do with a "pre-Kantian" perspective something or the other.

That's it. I'm being haunted by Kant. So, Feodor, here's yer chance: Recommmend one, just one, work by or about the man, for my edification.
Betcha he kant.
Since I don't like to make decisions for others, and always wanting DrLBJ to be right, (and playing within the small interstice between the syntactical pause of "one, just one" to indicate a subconscious wish of yours to have two recommendations), I'll recommend two VERY READABLE volumes that focus on different aspects of Kant as a way to illuminate current and very interesting issues (which I've done a few times now - aren't archives for this purpose):

Susan Neiman, Evil in Modern Thought - An Alternative History of Philosophy

Seyla Benhabib, Another Cosmopolitanism

Look them up on

As for Kant, himself, he is an acquired taste best starting with a great professor or a great introductory volume.
"Piety is not one of my strong suits."

UCC it is!

(UCC having its strong arm in activism.)
Lawl. Words would only detract from the hilarity.
F, re: "subconscious wish of yours to have two recommendations"

Crackin' me up. :-) And thanks.

A-Chuck: Do what?
A daisies and Fido fetish? Very disturbing.
