Fried oysters

Turns out I can wash 'em, pat 'em dry, flop 'em into flour, dredge 'em in egg-and-milk, shake 'em in bag of Zatarain's and make 'em in Crisco in a woc on the stove here at the house as good as I can buy 'em.

With hushpuppies. Cole slaw bought at teh Wal-Marts. And Lone Star beer.

When I lived on the East Coast my favorite treat was a plate of juicy fried clams (no, not the dry strips served today). Texas is now home, and I've substituted big, juicy fried oysters! Mmmmmm, good!
 
Sounds like it's too late to get an invite soooooo I may have to make a trip to oyster world. I see fried oysters on my plate in the very near future... mr bbs

Have you ever tried them the way they do them in Northern France?
Baked on the half shell with herb and garlic butter until they're cooked. Yum as well!

PS Isn't Crisco, like, poison? Just discovered a healthy oil that heats up without turning into trans fats - Rice Germ Oil - found it at the supermaket, and was quite dheap...
 
Vibrio Vulnificus is in ALL oysters. Cooking kills it. Refrigeration retards it.
Normal immune system can handle it.
A diabetic's system can not.
A person with any kidney problems can not.
A person with liver problems can not.
Anyone with a supressed immune system can not.
Most oysters are not refrigerated for over five hours after being taken. That's long enough for the toxins to grow by 100%.
Raw oysters are not regulated by the Feds or by States.
Any given person that eats raw oysters seemingly without effects can succumb to the toxin on the 100th oyster or the 100,000th oyster.
Yep, cook the bastards, or better yet don't touch them.
 
I never eat filter feeders. For some reason the notion of eating something that primarily eats poo grosses me out. I try to eat a little higher up the food chain. :)

But that's just me, apparently.

no I don't mind who eats what- I have an affinity for escargot as well
 
Ah yes, hogs, that reminds me of the scenes from the HBO series Deadwood where all excess bodies were handed off to the Chinese for use by their hogs and of course the pork was sold back to the people of Deadwood to eat. Sort of an early form of Soylent Green.
