Roswell UFO Festival: Should we?

Roswell UFO Festival.

Dr. ER and I were in attendance 11 years ago for the 50th anniversary of the "incident."

A highlight of the trip was when I hit a cow driving at night on the open range of New Mexico. (I just nicked her! Really.) Seconds later, she was beamed up. (Not really.)

Hmmm. Dr. ER is here. I'm off work next week and weekend. She needs something completely different. Help me talk her into a road trip!

She doesn't hang out here regularly, but I'll ask her to give a looksee later -- if y'all have any encouraging words. 'Specially 'bout critters from out-yonder space! :-)

Comments:
A road trip is an excellent idea and Roswell is a reasonable distance. And campy! And fun!
I vote for a road trip SOMEWHERE to give you guys some time together and away from the crap part of life right now. Change of pace, renewal, fun. All those good things.

(I, however, would be looking for a greener destination for myself. There is a lot of ugly out there even though Roswell itself is fun.)

How was your visit with Teditor? Did you all get a chance to meet up? He stopped by here and we had a great chat.

If I had the time and the resources, I'd go in a heartbeat!

Teditor stopped by the house and we talked rodeo and combinin' and life and such, then got to Ron's too late and then broke burgers at Whatburger. Fine time. Can't believe it'd been, like, three years, since we'd met up! ... Good lookin' newspapers he dropped off, too; they looklike newspapers!

Road trip. Change of scene, mental decompression, etc., and the great people watching at the UFO Festival itself. You guys need a break from reality.

Ditto what Nan said. Y'all definitely need a break from "reality".

And I so jealous of anyone going on a road trip right now. Two more days to comprehensive exam (why yes, i am procrastinating).

Do you comp and yer done with yer master's??

Oh definitely, Roswell!! That would be a hotbed of photographic opportunity just in the people-watching department.

Maybe you can work in a stop at Bird's place for some face time with her, Beau, and the granddogs. :)

Oh, man, Houston's in the opposite direction! :-) I think they're coming up later this summer.

Well, almost done, ER. Am also taking a class right now, but end of July as long as all goes smoothly.

I would go if I were in your shoes. I'll be fun!

Oh! For some reason I was thinking Dallas. Maybe because my sister lives there! :P

Next Friday, the village of Kirkland will have a grand 4th of July parade, one of the biggest in northern IL. If you make it to our neck of the woods, check it out. Afterwards, we'll be partying with family friends down in Sycamore. You're welcome to attend. While in the area, there's the Burpee Museum in Rockford, which houses our very own juvenile TRex skeleton. Should you get a hankering over Labor Day weekend, there's Riverfest, with several stages of music, more corn dogs and elephant ears than the American people should consume in a lifetime, and crowds to make this misanthrope yearn for the Sahara.

Never *heard* of an elephant ear! A bigger cousin of the funnel cake, I reckon?

I stand corrected!

Wiki:

"Funnel cakes somewhat resemble the foods known as fried dough or "elephant ears," but dough products are made with a risen yeast dough, whereas funnel cakes are made with an unleavened batter; In I'm Just Here for More Food Alton Brown states that funnel cakes are best made with choux pastry (which, when baked, is leavened only by the steam from its high water content)."

Because of the picture... here's a site I've been visiting for 3-some years... I once left the mouse cursor positioned over the cow all night long on my monitor at work...

Just to see how many abduction would occur in an eight hour period...

WOW... take the 'road trip' - I think it would be fun - I would if I could.

Though I hope you don't meet to many wacko conspirancy nuts, but I suppose the place would be full of them but all part of the experience

Enjoy

Lee

LOL! Thanks, EL!
