Meet Miss Lexi

This is the latest member of Bird and Beau's family: Miss Lexi, a baby bearded dragon.

Let's see. That makes Fenway and Apollo, the Boston terriers, and Ortiz, their hamster. Bird and Beau also gave me Jambalaya and Etouffe, the hermit crabs, to go with Dr. ER's critter, my stepdog, Riker, the regal and refined Pembroke welsh corgi, and Bailey, my biological dog, the 'tarded weenie dog who should live in a short yellow doghouse, and Ice-T, the cat God gave us who is now mine, our supervisor.

I have not had so many critters in my family and extended family since I awoke to a rooster crowing and hungry cows bawling back in the day!

Comments:
That's the type of critter DH could get behind. Doesn't run around the house and shed. :)

Cute name, Bird!

Aww, thanks, Jolene!

Miss Lexi, can you puff up your "beard" at the moment, or will you not be able to do that until you're older?

I'm not sure! I'm just a baby! I don't know much! But I'm pretty sure I have to feel threatened or aroused -- whatever that means -- to do my beard thing, if I even have one! I wish my mommy, Bird, would come explain things!

Fine looking cold blodded varmit you got there. Do you feed it live food?

I'm not sure if she's capable at the moment, but she sure hasn't done it! I think that is more common in the wild dragons because they are known for being so tame and comfortable with their humans. Some people say that theirs HATE going back in their habitats! I'm sure if you made her really angry though, she would. Maybe if Fenway and Apollo went for her!? She is so comfortable with both of us and likes to fall asleep on our hands when we pick her up! So cute! She has a nerve on top of her head that makes her fall asleep when you rub it.

And, right now we feed her crickets, greens, and phoenix worms. Eventually she will eat silk worms instead of the phoenix worms. Some people feed them pinkies, but we will not be doing that as its sad and adds nothing to her diet.

Re, "She has a nerve on top of her head that makes her fall asleep when you rub it."

I have one of those. :-)

What are pinkies??

Pinkies are the little finger on each hand.

I really don't count lizards, snakes, turtles, frogs, fish, or other such as "pets". A pet is a creature with which one interacts, and both get some kind of emotional benefit. One sits and watches fish in a tank, or a lizard in a tank, or a snake in a tank.

BTW, you've never explained, at least to me, why your dog is so dumb. I'd be interested.

Hrmph!

Here's what Wikipedia has to say about me and my bubbly personality!

"Due largely to their animated, highly social behavior, mild temperament, ready willingness to breed in captivity, flexible diet and robust nature, Bearded Dragons are popular among reptile enthusiasts as pets."

I am VERY sociable. Hrmph!

Bailey? We don't know WHY he is so 'tarded but he is. Might be inbreeding.

He eats until he's sick, if we let him. He barks at leaves -- I mean leaves that are just sitting there, not just the ones that are falling. If you start petting him, he will not let you quit. He throws his whole body against the sun room door when I go out with his feed, even though it HAS to hurt his already weak back.

But like most Special Olympians, he is the sweetest critter.

I wonder if Dreyfus qualifies, because he actually tries to go see, and play with, his shadow. And he will bark at his reflection in a dark window, thinking it is a dog looking in at him. Don't even get me started at our neighbor's mailbox. It is some kind of horrid thing about to invade our territory.

I'd say the mailbox thing qualifies him. LOL We should get Bailey and Dreyfuss together for a play day! Just put 'em both in a short yellow rubber-room doghouse!

With apologies to Bird, when I see that photo, only one thought comes to mind.

From that Bud Light commercial a few years ago: "Heeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeee, Lee-zard, Lee-zard, Lee-zard.

Pinkies are baby rats that are so young they don't even have fur yet... again, we are NOT feeder her these. They aren't truly good for her anyway! And, I agree that reptiles are not really like pets, with one exception. Beardies are actually really friendly and love being with their people. They like to just sit with you when you are watching TV or whatever... kinda like a dog in a reptile body. This is why she is the only reptile I would EVER allow in my home! She is already loving being with us.

Baby rats??? Yeesh. I'm glad Miss Lexi is too classy of a chick for *that.*

Teditor; I KNEW you were gonna comment, but I figured you were complain about Miss Lexi commenting! (Bird: Teditor thinks Ice-T can't type! WhatEV!)

Learnt my lesson. Who knew that cat could hit the home-row keys better than his owner?

'Sides, ain't nothin' negative. Well, other than that second sentence.

Teditor: Everyobody can type better than I can.

Jolene: You have a shed?

(I am cracking myself UP!)

A shed???

Don't let my wife near him/her. She can't seem to keep one of those things alive for more than 4 months. We've had three and all three died.

Jolene, you said: "That's the type of critter DH could get behind. Doesn't run around the house and shed. :)"

The critter wouldn't run around your house, or your shed! (Snicker). Might be you''ve been outta the country toooo long. :-)

Oh, duh! LOL!

Okay, let me rephrase that...

"It's a critter that doesn't run around the house and has no fur to shed."

Does that work for ya? :)

I haven't been out of the country too long, it's just the dang homonyms! :Þ

"They like to just sit with you when you are watching TV or whatever."

How do you know they "like" sitting with you? Perhaps it's just convenient because you happen to have the opposable thumbs necessary to change the channel on the TV. ;) Or maybe it's because they're ectotherms and you're just warm. :)

Or perhaps they're just biding their time until they take over the world and enslave the human race.

I for one welcome our new lizard overlords.

My Bird is gonna come up there and whup you.
