Goooooooooooose!

That's my plan for New Year's eatin' -- a goose broiled on my trusty Weber grill, baked sweet potatoes, something green, and cornbread. Oh, and hoppin' john if I get it made over the weekend.

My first goose was last New Year's. Mama ER wasn't eating hardly anything, but she tried some goose, and surprised herself, and me, by liking it.

Goose it is again this year, and a toast to my sweet, late Mama ER, who, of course, has been near to my heart throughout this holiday season.

What're y'alls' plans?

Comments:
Good for you eatin' the unusual meat that Americans don't dig anymore. It pains me that the only birds we eat anymore are turkey and chicken, and rather flavorless versions at that. What about duck, goose, pheasant quail? If there was just a bit more interest in these they wouldn't cost a fortune.

$3.43 a pound! At Wal-Mart!!

You got a Wal-Mart goose! Same thing happened to me right before Christmas when it was so dang crowded in there, but I didn't have to pay for it.

No, no, boys. There's two ohs in "goose."

We're doing our usual "non-party party" Our odd assortment of friends plus some of my husbands co-workers (THAT'll be interesting)sitting around playing board games and "Rock Band" until all hours of the night.

I will be cooking many various and sundry appitizers and pizza.

Trixie, I hadda read that thrice before I realized you were sayin' you'd done been frotteurized at Wally world! Hoooooot!

OMG. It's 6:25 p.m. on a holiday Friday, and Dr. ER and I have done been to supper, at the Red Lobster, and are back home and down for the count.

And GLAD about it. :-)

We have a new baby, recently born in Chicago, Illinois, and we will be celebrating our blended Canadian/American family with filet (beef), fresh crab and lobster.
I can't beleieve that you can buy goose in a Walmart!

can't figure out the new, sorry, anonymous was karen

Work. Period. That's my life right now until I find something different (which I have started to do). Happy New Year, good thoughts as you remember your dear mother.

We tried goose two years ago for Christmas, and it was a whole lot of work. We did enjoy it. Our cat, Patch, loved a bit of the liver, sliced and put on her dinner. She has yet to recover from it.

It's true, E.R. I keep going back, but it's not quite the same now that most of the big sales are over. Guess I'll have to wait until next Christmas.

Your love for your Mama causes my heart to swell. I love that!

Trixie: Yer naughty! :-)

Karen: Free-range even, at Wal-Mart! (Long time no see! Wait! YOU Had a baby? Then yer excused!) :-)

Geoffrey: Lotta trouble, but less so on the grill (indirect heat), outside.

Teresa: Off friends are the bst! Take my friend Sharp Blessed, for example. ... :-)

Mom2: :-) I've been pretty good at not letting it get to me so far. The goose cookin' actually is deliberate self-defense. :-)

OK. Early supper. Much dessert at home, during a watching of "The Karate Kid" for the first time in years. Some Dickelized eggnog for the FIRST TIME this year! Every nook and cranny of my gullet is full. I think I am fixin' to collapse.

Grrr. "Off friends" = "odd friends."

I didn't physically give birth, but had to rush off to Chicago at a moment's notice to meet our 7 day-old daughter, the emotions were extremely intense, and I had a few weeks of post-adoption stress. (... loved Chicago!) So I'm sorry I've missed some interesting postings.

But I want a Walmart like you guys have! Ours is good for buying toilet paper and garbage bags...

No "Top Gun" fans here, I see...

D'oh! I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes!

I'm thinking ribeye steaks will be in order Monday evening. Simple green salad. Grilled veggie medley, and a fruit salad for dessert.

Time to get back to my lean, mean, weight-lifting routine, and a diet of protein, vegetables and fruits.

I'm feeling flabby and sluggish. Mostly sluggish...

By the way, I've had an "issue" with www.tracyplaces dot com. I was asleep at the wheel and lost my domain name. My new URL is www.tracyplaces.net. So come on by and say howdy. And fer goodness sakes, please change your feedreaders. The scumbag what got the dot com of my domain now is a spam blogger. We gotta bury that guy on the search engines.

Hey, Tracey! I wondered what happent to yer site! Glad to hyear yer OK! I'll change my blogroll.

Say, Trixie, so that was you?

Thanks, buddy. For 5 or 6 weeks around Thanksgiving, I moved out of my house so some reconstruction work could be done -- replacing some sub floors, relocating gas line to water heater, reworking plumbing (bringing everything up to code -- previous homeowners from 15 years ago did a do it yursef that caused me some headaches). I put in new flooring, new shower, stuff like that. The sawdust and such would have been terrible on my asthma, and the animals needed to be out of the way during the day, so we just moved to my folks house in Lavaca. So the limited internet access I had after work was from somebody else's wireless in my mom and dad's neighborhood. During that interim, I THOUGHT I'd re-upped the dot com domain. Then I saw that scumbag blog and started investigating. My account shows I paid wordpress to re-up the domain, but godaddy.com auctioned off the domain as "abandoned" the middle of December. Right now I'm trying to get this guy banned as a spam blogger. AND I'm trying to bury his hits by burying his domain on google searches. Accomplishing either or both of those objectives should allow me to contact him in a few weeks/months and buy back the domain at a reasonable price.

So I'm posting and linking and basically have declared war on the creep.

Sounds like you've had a wonderful Christmas season -- despite all the challenges you're facing. Good man!

Take care, ER!

I have a long history of staying home and nursing sick girlfriends on New Year's Eve. This one looks to be the same, though we may go out to the coast to join Disco Boy and his lady there.

New Year's Day, of course, steaks at the Ringside.

Yay for Karen, et al., and her new baby!!!! Woo hoo!
