"Christian" Christmas Chickenshit

I knew it would happen. Once again, wingnuts (def. 1) -- i.e., Focus on the Family, in action -- gets stupid and mean.

To wit:

How the Democratic Grinches Stole Christmas

by Jennifer Mesko, managing editor

Nine U.S. lawmakers refuse to support resolution on the reason for the season.

Nine Democrats refused to support a U.S. House resolution Tuesday seeking the official recognition of Christmas — even though eight of them supported a similar resolution on Ramadan earlier this year.

"The foundation of this nation and this culture is Christian. … I think there's an assault on Christianity in America," sponsor Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said in a statement.

"It's time we stood up and said so and said to the rest of America, 'Be who you are, and be confident, and let's worship Christ and celebrate Christmas for the right reasons,' " he told Fox News.

King missed the vote after an ice storm stranded him in Iowa.

Those in King's crosshairs are: Reps. Gary Ackerman and Yvette Clarke of New York; Diana DeGette of Colorado; Alcee Hastings of Florida; Jim McDermott of Washington; Bobby Scott of Virginia; and Barbara Lee, Pete Stark and Lynn Woolsey of California.

Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said: "These nine lawmakers were the only members of Congress to oppose a resolution honoring America’s history and tradition of the Christian faith, the same faith for which four young Coloradoans were killed less than a week ago."

Nine other Democrats and one Republican voted "present" on the resolution, which means they did not take a position. Forty lawmakers did not vote.

WOULD Y'ALL JUST SHUT THE HELL UP?

Do they have reasons? Real ones? Maybe they're not only not Christians -- but maybe they are active God Fearers -- but believers in a non-Christian religion?

RIPE UNTO HARVEST?

CAN'T Y'ALL LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE? CAN'T YOU TAKE A CLEAR WIN AND RUN WITH IT?

No. No, they can't. Because they're baby taliban!

No wonder people are shooting Christians because they're Christians. No wonder some Christ followers refuse to call themselves "Christians." They've made a mockery of it!

Comments:
The thing that really pisses me off about this BS war on christians in the US, is that they have no clue what christian persecution really means. I knew a nun who was killed in Liberia in the early 90s. I knew her personally.

My cousin is a doctor, and did mission work in Nepal. He made it clear he could be arrested for evangalizing. He told us not to write things like "we are praying for you" even in e-mails or he could be arrested.

My wife's cousin did nursing work in an orphanage in Sudan. The local population supported the work, but they were constantly hassled by government and outsiders.

This is persecution. Having an official recognition of an overly hypped and greedy holiday is just crass.

What annoys me is just how little these faux-pious fundies actually know about their religion.

Where's the resolution defending Advent? Where's the resolution defending Childermas? Epiphany? Candlemas? How can we possibly celebrate these holidays if Congress and the fundies don't "save" them for us?!

Oh, the resolution ignores Orthodox Christians, who celebrate Christmas on January 7th, not December the 25th. But again, we wouldn't expect the fundies to realize that, either.

Great perspective, Jim. Good points, Alan.

You know, usually, after I sleep on something, my blood calms down the day after I post something like this. Not today. I'm still appalled and disgusted at the *real* war going on here.

The spirit of fear, the spirit of self-importance, the spirit of pride -- it's the spirit of this world that's driving the false piety of the Christian-media-postindustrial complex.

And that ain't the Spirit of God! They are playing into the hands of the Enemy, and they don't even know it.

Screwtape is laughing his ass off.

BTW, I know some of y'all cringe when I use vulgar language. Well, I do so to describe vulgar events or situations.

"Chickenshit," in this usage, is precisely what I mean, and there really is no better word for it:

Chickenshit: n. Contemptibly petty, insignificant nonsense. A coward. adj. Contemptibly unimportant; petty. Cowardly; afraid.

Off topic, sort of:

OK, I like this. My differences with my Baptist brethren have to do with how they perceive the Bible, not practice:

Huckabee told reporters last week he didn't watch Romney's highly anticipated speech on his faith. But he argued that he has been confronted with questions about his faith more than Romney has and that he also would make a "God speech" if given the airtime.

"I get all of the God questions at the debates, so you know when people say, 'Oh, he had to make a speech,' I'm thinking, 'Hey you know what? If you'll give me national television time, I'll make you a God speech, and I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll throw in an offering and an altar call to throw in with it.' "

I have this wild dream of becoming a UCC pastor. I'd hop the congregation would have what I consider the best of several traditions:

Totally open Communion, monthly. Immersion baptism (sprinkling on request). Lots of singing. The gamut of music, from high-church to country-church. Testimony time. Altar calls. But also: adhering to the church calendar and liturgy. Taking the Bible seriously, not literally.

Imagine: First Redneck Congregational-UCC Church.

Droolers be here.

As I suspected, DrLobojo's power is out at his house (he says so in another comment).

Glad yer OK, dude. Dr. ER is on her way. We gotta get together in the next coupla weeks!

Got power back after 6 days. Man the ice didn't hurt my 90 year old Cedar tree but the damn Asplund tree people chopped the thing into pieces. It will never survive. They came through the powerline corridor like Sherman through Georgia taking out everything for ten feet on either side of the linedown to the ground. Interestinly there are no easements on my property, It was platted in 1914 and no one ever bothered to get easements. My back yard looks five times worse than it did with the ice damage.
Bitch you say, but didn't they get you electricity on? Yes, after 6 days, but I didn't plan on haveing sex with them to get them to do it.
It seems like government and corporate structures have learned to use "a crisis" as an excuse to do what they want to get done that would be undoable otherwise,
It is also notable that it has been 10 years since they trimmed the trees in our area. Also that two cross bars on the high line were rotten and broke because of that. How do you know they were rotten? The bolts on the insulators pulled out trhough the bar and did not splinter the wood, eg. rotten wood.
Gripe-gripe-gripe-grumble-gripe grinch grinch YES that't it GRINCH!
Bah Humbug.

That sucks. They're butchering what's left of trees everywhere.
