See OKC! See The Flaming Lips Alley!

It's official, and I think it's damn cool, even though it ain't my personal musical genre.

About the Lips.

Hoo hoo. I heard someone today call it a "pedestrian way," or some such.

Lots of people do hoof it up and down that way. You can get into a restaurant or bar or two from it.

But's it's still an alley. If it was any more than that, the dadgum The Flaming Lips itself wouldn't approve.

(Whoa, I LOVE how keeping the grammar right in that last sentence seems so wrong!)

I have notice over time that when a school or street or building is named in honor of someone that after the heat of the moment when the honor is cold and the supporters stiff in their graves that those names slip away in favor of new heroes, celebrities or political contributors.
One thing about having a "alley" named after you is that nobody is apt to want what you have. The Flaming Lips may be honored in that alley as long as there is an alley there and maybe beyond.

LOL. Yer probably right.

Cool! And it's so cool that I was on that alley just a couple of weeks ago. I am a native Oklahoman and the Lips definitely ARE my genre. When folks say "but you don't have that Reba McIntyre" accent, I remind them that the Lips came from OKC and that country music was banned in our house from the day I was born. (Though I've actually come to appreciate Reba on her own terms.)

I'm partial to Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots myself.

VERY cool band. Strange but cool. If I had to liken them to anyone, I'd say their style reminds me a lot of another favorite band, Klaatu

Oh! You can hear and download a few free tunes at their MySpace page...

Danged if there wadn't a first-even Halloween Parade tonight, Saturday, in downtown Oklahoma City -- and the Lips were the Grand Marshals, complete with a bunch of skeletonized groupies!

I'da been there, if not for the World Series. Oh, and the fact that I'm clown-eyed from working all day on a paper I'm to present in a few days. Gaaaaahhhhhh .....
