Plans plans plans, and gtt

Dr. ER will be here for Labor Day weekend. Sunday, we're taking off for somewhere, with a picnic basket.

Options so far:

Dusk to Dawn Blues Festival at Rentiesville, Okla. (Read about Rentiesville and some more on Oklahoma's historically black towns here.)

Red Dirt Harvest Festival at Okemah, Okla. More on Red Dirt music here.)

Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival, Tuskahoma, Okla.

Westfest Polka Festival, West, Texas. (Read about Czechs in Texas here.)

What would y'all do?

And now I'm gtt -- not to Texas! Gone to Tulsa, on bidness, and I hope to have time to go to the Gilcrease Museum.

Comments:
Blues. Definitely, definitely blues. Polka's fun too, but for an all-day-and-night thing, it'd have to be blues.

Hope you made it to the Gilcrease. That's a great museum.

I'm with Kiki - do the blues, let the polkateers do their thing in the privacy of their own home.

The Red Dirt festival...good music on the grounds of a winery, where there will be wine tasting? This is a no-brainer! :) Sounds like the perfect place to picnic to me.

Ditto the above.. The Gilcrease is a great visit. Hope you have at least a few hours for the visit..

ER,

Don't let them folks badmouth the polka. It's great stuff and one of the most fun dances you can do.

And what lyrics:

In heaven,
There is no beer
That's why
We drink it here.

And when
We're gone from here
Our friends
Will be drinkin' all the beer.

Woo hoo. I got to spend an hour-plus at the Gilcrease, where I'd been before. They split up all the Indian headdresses they used to have in one place -- apparently several years ago -- but it was still its usual great self.

Oh, dudes and dudettes: I got out of here late, then opted to skip dinner in favor of the Gilcrease, then had a 2 p.m. appointment that lasted to dang near 4, and so THEN finally got to eat -- at Chimi's, E. 15th and Peoria. Yes, yes, I know, it's a Sonoran Mexican joint -- but the Tex-Mex enchilada trio, black beans and papas fritas, and chips and GREAT salsa etc., were just great. Even with iced tea. ;-)

Came back through Stillwater, saw Bird and delivered some, um, unmentionables that she forgot and left here, saw a demonstration of the Wii contraption that she and YankeeBeautrothed got each other for their 'versary, then stopped at another place to shake hands with an old friend I hadn't seen in a year, then came home to liberate poor Riker from the sun room, where I'd forgotten and left him all day. He had water. But it was gone by the time I got back. And he is too refined to pee or poop that close to being inside the house. He was realll glad to see ER. Poor critter. Bad ER!

A right fine day in the great state of Oklahoma, it was.

As for the Sunday picnic: It's really between blues and red dirt -- but we might could do some of both, I'm thinkin'. Red dirt, then blues ... ?

That Saturday will be devoted to hanging with Bird and YankeeBeautrothed, their Wii, and the granddogs, at their place, listening to OSU-Georgia.

I was going to suggest combining the red and the blue, for sure. And it's best if you're listening to the blues into the night, if you have to pick an order. Don't forget the bug spray. It's very annoying to be bug swamped when you're trying to mellow to the music.
