"Reverend" Fred Phelps is a Democrat. He has even run for governor of Kansas a couple of times as a Democrat. Kind of makes you proud to be a Democrat, doesn't it?

ER, thank you for posting this. I have tried to maintain a certain respectful attitude toward Falwell. I refuse to condemn him, calling him evil, hateful, etc., but I also refuse to whitewash the fact that I think his influence on our public life was wholly negative. It is a fine line to tread, and it would be easy to insult his memory, and become hate-filled myself, and slide in to personal insults and attacks. We are not served well by such talk. There is enough in the public record to say, "Whatever his personal life may be, he was a destructive force in our public life."

What we need in the blog world is a font called "oozing with...", that anon et. al. can use for post.
