RSB, on mental illness

Go here and read some rare, reasonable remarks regarding young Cho of the Virginia Tech massacre, by Red State Blues of Blondesense.

Bottom line: The mentally ill are born, not made.

Comments:
For those that truely know who I am may shudder a bit at this statement.

In the late 1980's and early 1990's I used to drive to work in the mornings praying all the way there; "Please ,Dear Lord, stay my hand from harming anyone." " Don't let me hurt or kill anyone today!" I wasn't talking about their feelings or psyche I was praying that no-one would trigger a killing outburst or that I would contain it if they did.

It took years and a counselor and the new drugs as they came along to control the deamon of anger in me. Very few people knew that is was caged within me.

So forgive me (or not) when I say I completely understand Cho and the 9/11 nuts etc. I don't condone any of it. I think it is punishable by death.(as did they, for they killed themselves did they not) I do not sypathize, but I do empathize with it. I've been there and flirted with it, and I don't mean that metaphorically.
But Jesus, boys and girls when you pull a boy off of the farm and teach him to be an effective and practiced killer for his country don't expect that it gets turned off and doesn't come back on in 2 years, or 10 years, or 20 years or 40 years. Iraq will be sending home a bunch of these Dragon's Teeth.

Likewise when these "underclass" types are teased, bullied, and humiliated and then they turn mental on you and feed on themselves to the point of a Killing Rage don't be susprised. Ask you local State Legislator how much he appropriates on Mental Health. It is a farce. You elected him/her it is your responsibility.

It can't be tolerated, these Rages, but I understand them. Please, Dear Lord, stay their hands from harming someone, TODAY.

"when you pull a boy off of the farm and teach him to be an effective and practiced killer for his country don't expect that it gets turned off ..."

How many John Rambos!

Thanks for your kind words, ER. I need to take the time to do a follow up post about the intersection between the mentally ill and the legal system. It's such a screwed up situation.

You know right after the mentally ill were dumped on the streets in the 1980s there all these people wandering around talking to themselves. It was kinda spooky. Now there are at least 10 times as many people wandering around talking to themselves. Does that mean anything?

Oh yes and ER, don't worry about the John Rambos. Worry about that wierd guy next door. That tech dude at work that never acknowledges your greeting. Or that driver in the Escalade who is just this side of hell and is right behind you. Maybe you should watch out for the man in shorts with two artificial legs thats buying 500 rounds of 9mm ammo at WalMart, or maybe that sexy little thing that has 20 boxes of moth balls and Coleman lantern fuel in her cart at Target. It is in the eyes.

drlobojo, I take it from your comments that you are a vet. You might also enjoy these blogs, by other vets. My guess is y'all will relate well to one another.
