On global free trade, poisoned wheat gluten, melamine and dead dogs and cats

Hold onto your companion animals, y'all. This deal smells like one for the history books. Nobody knows for sure what the heck is going on. Don't let them make you think they do.

Add Alpo to the list of pet food brands recalling wet pet food after a wave of dog and cat deaths throughout North America. ...

The melamine-tainted wheat gluten came from a new supplier, who imported the ingredient from China. ...

Read all about it.

I just threw away four cans of the Alpo in question. We used it as a stopgap for Riker and Bailey when they run out of dry food. ... And if they recall Beneful Healthy Weight dry food, I'll ask y'all to put the dogs on your prayer lists.

Of course, I don't believe a damn word any spokesman for any big corporation says. The evil bastards. Screw America! Screw people! Screw their dogs and cats. All hail the power of Mammon's name, let humans prostrate fall!

Yes. I *do* feel better now.

I had a can of one of the Science Diet flavors that wasn't one of the affected lot numbers, but I'm chucking it anyway. I had it just for a treat for Twix, so she won't miss it.

Now one kind of Science Diet dry food is under recall. She doesn't eat that one, but is running out of the dry Science Diet she usually eats.

I can't decide what I want to do next. I've been trying to wait them out while the testing continues. THEN I hear that cats are more susceptible--great.

My neighbor was just talkin about this yesterday, He has a bunch of strays his wife and kids keep dragging home. He wondered if anyone had any extra cans.......Sis from whats left in the church

Frenzied: The answer is peolel food for pets! :-) Ice-T likes pizza crust and, of course, sardines. And ice cream. The dogs'll eat anything that can't get away.

Sis: Ha! I'da been that way with cats until summer before last when I was actually smitten by a kitten!

Our cat gets Special Kitty because she is - dry, of course, because canned cat food causes problems with their little urinary tracts. Our dog, Dreyfus (our St. Bernard "of good quality and character" as Pastor Lisa calls him each and every day) gets Iams, which I have heard has problems of its own (I think it's the ash content), but not rat poison from Chinese slave labor. Anyway, he likes it, and it certainly does reduce the landmine quotient in the backyard (Dreyfus is sweet, but dim; we can't get him to go anywhere but in our yard, even on a looooooonnnnggggg walk). Something tells me, however, that this story, like pretty much everything else that has happened recently, is hardly over.

Four cats, Friskies dry and canned fish only, so far so good. The smallest one also lives on self captured "bugs". The old tom licks up ants. The tuxedo cat eats squirrles head first. So I can't poison the bugs or the ants or shoot the squirrels. I used to worry about the murcery in the fish I feed them, the I found that it was mostly farmed salmon from the fiords of Chile and there is very little murcery in them.
If you want to win the Presidency handsdown, track down and punish the culprits that are killing the pets. We have more empathy with our cats and dogs than with our warriors abroad. That's just the way it is.

Twix isn't much for people food. I've offered her the opportunity to lick my ice cream bowl when I'm done with it, but she turns up her nose. I just don't get it. I've never had a cat that turned down the ice cream bowl.

Perhaps the sardines, if I can get past the smell. ;)

With the doc gone, Ice-T and I can have sardines any time we want! Bwa-ahaha!

This got my ex in laws cat. It
was so sad. He was 11 yrs old.

Ive always fed my dog "botique brands". In other words, not shit you buy at the grocery stores with tons of filler. The best stuff is always at the local lesbian type pet stores. Actually feeding my dog a duck/potato food now.

The energy consumed by beef is just rediculous and the conditions in which chickens are kept are....well, the reason for things such as the Avian Flu.
