Woody Guthrie Folk Festival

Might just get up early in the morn, mow what's left of my yard and mosey on over to Okemah for the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival tomorry.

Who was Woody Guthrie?

Still some older Oklahomans around who consider him a commie. Ah, no. A socialist, for sure, but not a commie -- a distinction that feeble minds never *have* been able to make.

Woody Guthrie did -- and continues to do -- Oklahoma proud.

Comments:
On a lighter note, I learned just today that some pop songs are considered "gay anthems," and that "I Will Survive" is one of them.

And now I can't stop whistling "I Will Survive." Great.

LOL! I love me some Woody Guthrie and have written about him. I hope you get to go. It would be a most worthwhile experience.

"Who was Woody Guthrie", indeed!

maybe i'm wrong, but i'd always figured woody's was a household name. oughta be, anyways....

"And now I can't stop whistling 'I Will Survive.'"

KEvron, as long as i know how to love

Hillbillies:

America's first freaks.

You've got that right, E.R. Truthfully, I come from a long line of hippies. But in the olden days they called 'em moonshiners.

Old Woody once said that he wrote "This Land is Your Land" because he despised the then popular Irving Berlin's "God Bless America". He went on to say that God ain't blessed the America that he knowed.
That's kind of like the present day dichotomy ain't it? It also arks back to your post a few days ago as well.

Love that Woody:

Jesus Christ was a man that traveled through this land;
A carpenter, true and brave;
Said to the rich, "Give your goods to the poor",
So they laid Jesus Christ in His grave.

Or, how about:

Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.

What's YOUR favorite Woody line?

From Tom Joad:
...

Said what Preacher Casey said, Tom Joad,
He said what Preacher Casey said.

Ever'body might be just one big soul
Well it looks that a way to me.
Everywhere that you look in the day or night
That's where I'm gonna be, Ma,
That's where I'm gonna be.

Wherever little children are hungry and cry
Wherever people ain't free.
Wherever men are fightin' for their rights
That's where I'm gonna be, Ma.
That's where I'm a gonna be.
