West Point Grads Against the War

From West Point Graduates Against the War.

"If all that Americans want is security, they can go to prison. They’ll have enough to eat, a bed and a roof over their heads. But if an American wants to preserve his dignity and his equality as a human being, he must not bow his neck to any dictatorial government."
-- Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Discuss.

Comments:
“The powers in charge kept us in a perpetual state of fear – kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor – with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant sums demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have happened, seem never to have been quite real.”

“Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear.”

-- Not some left-winger. Douglas A. MacArthur.

God bless these men.

Shouldn't there be a "Three" preceding "West Point Grads Against the War"?

My security is in my freedoms.

Those are being taken away. I am less secure.

Hmm. Maybe the Web site, yes, should be called "Three West Point Graduates Against the War."

On the other hand, the site is an invitation to other West Point graduates to join; maybe there are already more than three involved.

In any case, it's accurate without the "Three," since "graduates" doesn't suggest "all," only at least two.

There, I have taped together a split hair. :-)

The organization is less than six weeks old, and there are six members based on the "join us" section. Of course this is not counting the many West Point Grads (If you are a general for example in today's Army chances are you are a West Point grad) who have already come out against the Administrations handling of the war out side of this small group.

But even during Vietnam I never heard of a group like this. This is really unusual. In fact the last time West point grads may have openly split on an issue might have been the Civil War.

Okay, "Six West Point Grads Against the War", then.

And it's extraordinary.

Six West Point Grads Against the War

Six West Point Grads Against ...

If one of those grads should happen to ... um ... change his mind ("fall" in this context would be loaded in a way I wouldn't mean) ...

Six West Point Grads Against the War!

Somethin' like that, KEv? :-)

Yo, SOL! Good to see ya. I just picture you typin' away, sendin' off your pieces and gettin' more of 'em accepted than rejected! How goes the writer's life, lad?

Oh, Jesus, Mary and Joseph (so to speak).

D.dad and KEv on the same thread.

Everybidy, y'all all just head to yer bomb shelters. The Erudite Redneck Emergency Response Seqwuence has been activated.

4. D.dad, meet KEv.

3. KEv, meet D.dad.

2. Y'all hate each other. Trust me.

1. Just take it outside before it even gets started. Y'all each go to the other's joint to spill blood.

...

:-)

Has anyone seen a site called FBI Agents against the War?

Looks to me like they're busy distracting everybo-- I mean, trying to find Jimmy Hoffa again.

I thought he was dog food (or dog shit by now) in Argentina?

Ya gotta love Eisenhower, one of the progressives' favorite Generals.

There is only one solution for our generation: It is the return to a life based on Christ's Sermon on the Mount.

....

Should any political party attempt to abolish Social Security,
unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are...a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional
politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.

Point taken.

Neither does d.dad, really.

Retracted.

Just remember that someday when Hannity is ridiculing "West Point Graduates Against the War" because it only has 66 members, that you first read about it here, early on when it only had six members!

Dan Trabue, did Eisenhower really say that? Do you by chance have a cite to when/where he did?

Dang, I'm starting to appreciate hoe prescient Eisenhower was about so many things. I don't think I've ever heard that particular quote, though, so thanks.

RSB yes he did. Back when President had Cajones he said it.

Thanks, Doc.

ER, you might want to know that WPGAW has been told by lawyers for West Point to stop using the West Point name for their organization. The story linked below was written by a blogger known as Shakespeare's Sister. Seems this adminsitration will go to some serious lengths to stifle dissent over this unjustified war.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Antiwar_West_Point_grads_told_to_0519.html

Here are two paragraphs about the copyrighted "Name" in the story:

Lori L. Doughty, an intellectual property attorney from the office of the judge advocate, wrote to West Point Graduates Against the War (WPGAW) on behalf of the nation's oldest military academy. The letter, acquired by RAW STORY, asserts that the trademark is "deeply important" to protect the "image and standing of the United States Military Academy in [sic] the national and world stage."

WPGAW co-founder Jim Ryan notes, "The academy has negotiated deals with local businesses, such as West Point Pizza, West Point Cleaners, and the West Point Motel... How does a pizza parlor enhance West Point's image on the world stage?"

That sucks.

Just wanted to inform you that we our membership is now over 150. We had a jump start from the opposition which the legal staff at West Point raised when we opened our site. Since that time our numbers continue to grow as we speak out in various places.
One of our aims now is to encourage impeachment proceedings to have the issues which we have raised discussed openly in congress.
