Wide open Friday
I'm worn out today. Been up late and early the last three days getting a historical (not for work) article written before this weekend, so I could relax -- and I'm just too old to stay up until midnight and get up at 4 a.m. more than once in a row.
So, I'm brain-addled.
Fixing to go to Maker's in downtown Oklahoma City for a fancy-ass cigar and a glass or two of Chimay ale, for medicinal purposes only, you see.
In the meantime, y'all run the joint.
Here's something to start on:
What do you want for Christmas: Temporal? Spiritual? Political?
Me:
Ribeye roast on my trusty Weber kettle grill might be in the offing sometime over the holidays.
The Lord has been kind enough to let me come skulkin' around His people again after years of going it alone. Thank Him. Hope to continue that.
Political: May we find a way to find consensus again.

Ok, first of all: nice tobacco and Chimay? And you claim to be an Okie? Puhleeze.
What do I want.
Material greed: my credit card paid off.
Spiritual: Less anxiety, more patience with myself.
Political: Universal health care and/or the provision of a year's paid family leave to either parent.

Tug wants a Gazillion Bajillion Dollars, Some unstructured vegetatin' time with the wife and the rest of my family, And a whole drawer full of thick, warm, new socks.
Material--my new business to do well enough to be out of debt by the end of 2006
Spiritual--to find a nice group of progressive folks who understand that we're all on a journey together, but each of us has to find our own way
Political--investigations, indictments and impeachments, not necessarily in that order

Woo-hoo -- I actually got to talk to the Erudite Redneck on one o' them new fangled tellyphones yesterday. Got to talk to Dr. ER, too!
What do I want? Material? Gosh, I'd sure like to make our business milestones and get paid. New shoes are always good, too.
Spiritual? I'd like to be in a place where someone can come into my life, sit and stay a spell. I think Ms. bitchphd says it well -- less anxiety, more patience with myself (and I'd add others.)
Political? Gosh, I'd sure like this Indiana time zone debate to just be over.

You know at this time a year I always ask people another question about Christmas, and I am always suprised that they always have an instant answer. It seems that most people are really 12 years old at heart.
The question is: What did you as a kid always want for Christmas but never got. Then the follow up question did you ever get one for youself or your kid(s) after you were grown up?
For me the thing was an electric train. A Lionel or an American Flyer. Never got one. When my brother was 7, he got a Marks electric train, which was a cheap OTASCO version of the Lionel or American Flyer, but I never ever even got a Marks.
Did I compensate latter? God damn right I did. I road real trains when ever and where ever I could all my life, even to the point of sharing a 3rd class car with goats and chickens on a steam train in Ethiopia once. I have a shed with a complete HO gauge layout,my kids all had electric trains, and real size train stuff is spread all over my back yard and house. And if anyone calls my trains "toys" or my railfaness a "foaming", I have been known to hunt them down.

Never got a horse. We had cows all over the damn place, but daddy was a pickup rancher. I WILL have horse(s), and cattle, one of these days.
Hey, B, I only just discovered Chumay. Wow. the most complex array of flavors, for it not being wine, I've had yet. I'm sipin' another one as I type, from a red-and-white plastic goblet crafted in the likeness of Santa Claus! How merry is that?? :-)
