My Christmas tree has become a sort of testament to many of the places I’ve been. ...

All I know is that we're all waiting, demanding, and hoping for your in-depth essay on crunk and china white.
It's Chyna Whyte, I believe.
And "crunk," is a form of hip-hop. Cross it and loop back around to rap, hip-hop's daddy, and you've got crunk + rap = crap.
Just kidding. I like lots of musical forms, and can tolerate damn near anything. See Russian opera post below.

that's very sweet. my christmas "tree" is a foot and a half tall, stainless steel and leafless. it holds about twenty ornaments, all balls from crate & barrel. this year, i'm thinking about buying some new ones-- in shades of pink and purple. someday, i'd like to have a real tree, decorated with memories like yours.
merry christmas.
merry christmas.
My tree this year is the real Christmas tree I bought three years ago. This is its forth Christmas. Yes, the needles are all gone and it is now painted white and two years ago I covered it in white lights from the after Christmas sales at 90% off. Last year it stood duty in the outside weather on my front poarch. This year it is back in the house. It is quite dusty and will require some repair of the broken limbs, but is still servicable for a time to come. It has no ornaments at all on it. It is beautifully bleak and white like bleached bones on the prairie snow. It is a three dimensional metaphor for how I see Xmas.
