"Hey, ER, what's for supper?"*

(*Inspired by Grandpa Jones.)

Little-bitty yardbirds (Cornish game hens), stuffed with Granny Smith green apple slices, smoked with apple wood and basted with butter and white wine, broasted to a browny crunch on ER's trusty charcoal Weber kettle grill!

Sweet taters, just baked, then opened, doused with butter and sprinkled with brown sugar!

Green beans seasoned with bacon!

Stuffing!

Deviled eggs!

Bread-and-butter pickles!

Whole-berry cranberry sauce!

Rolls!

Served with Kendall Jackson chardonnay!

With a choice of mousemeat** or pumpkin pie with Cool Whip, and coffee, or Black Swan shiraz/merlot, for dessert, while watching the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special on TV, then "A Christmas Story" on DVD!

"Yum yum!"

Just me and Dr. ER. Bird is having a Thankskgiving dinner with her grandparents and a Thanksgiving supper with her male p[arental unit and stepmama -- then we get her for the rest of the long weekend, for purposes of helping us Griswold the house! :-)

And what are (did) y'all do for fancy eatin' this glorious day?

--ER

**I've called mincemeat mousemeat for s'long as I can remember.

Comments:
Darn, that all sounds really really good. Pumpkin pie, please, hold the cool whip. No mousemeat in our house--PK would be shocked.

Turkey with a variety of starchy sides. Pumpkin and fudge pecan pies. Belt-loosening and nap soon to follow.

Happy Thanksgiving, ER!

Hee hee, B, I was thinkin' about how PK might be mortified at the idea.

Hey, Corndog! Nice to see ya! My nap is hours away. Birdlets are still out there cookin' ...

Oh, and back atcha 'Dog, you, too, B, with the Thanksgivin' happy wishes and all!

Happy Thanksgiving!
My repast was provided by a friend who hauled me off to a buffet at Holiday Inn. We had the whole feast -- turkey, dressing, mashed taters, cranberry stuff, corn. Assorted salads, other veggies and desserts were available, BUT good for me, I resisted the sweets and can't really say I suffered because of it. Lots of good cold ice water and iced tea to wash it down with. Certainly far more food consumed than necessary.
Yum, YUM!
And to top it all off... four WHOLE DAYS not having to be accountable to anyone for anything! That is even better than the mass quantities of food, in my book. :)

mThis belongs on your previous post as well as this one.

A Turkey Speaks
By Unknown author

I have never understood
why anyone would
roast the turkey
and shuck the clams
and crisp the croutons
and shell the peas
and candy the sweets
and compote the cranberries
and bake the pies
and clear the table
and wash the dishes
and fall into bed
when they could sit back
and enjoy a hamburger.

Leftover turkey, leftover stuffing, leftover gravy, leftover cranberry sauce mashed potatoes, asparagus, peas and apple pie.

My brother was in town two weeks ago and he LOVES turkey, so my mom baked a huge onen while he was here and saved the leftovers for today. It should be noted that I have no problem with this at all. It was delicious, Mom wasn't overly stressed, and we all had a wonderful, relaxed afternoon.

Turkey, stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, cranberry-horseradish sauce, cranberry-orange sauce, gravy.

AND pumpkin pie. With REAL whipped cream ;)

I made my own poultry seasoning with chili powder, celery salt, omion salt, dry mustard, seasonung salt, black pepper, paprika, brown sugar, and I forget what all else, and rubbed it on a turkey which I put into the oven for what should have been 3 1/2 hours. For some reason it only took 1 1/2 hours, but it got done and was very tasty, if I do say so myself. Also had cheddar cheese mashed potatoes, green beans and cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for dessert. Followed by a nice long triptophan influenced nap.

!!

And all the people said, "Bu-urrrp!"

:-)

Skywind, I am all for relaxing when it comes to meal preparation!

Brother ER totally surprised Mama ER, 83, today, by doin' a big ol' ham himself and deliverin' it pipin' hot to her place at about 10 a.m. She had no idea. I thought that was pretty cool. She still confessed to being worn out when I talked to her this afternoon, but still.

Awwwww, that is so sweet! Good for bro.

Fall-off-the-bones tender turkey, cornbread dressing, gravy, homegrown beans with salt pork, cranberry-orange sauce, homemade bread, homemade dill pickles, deviled eggs, olives, stuffed celery, and yer choice of pumpkin or mousemeat pie. And I made it all except the pies.. mom brought those, but left them for us!

Yum yum, I love mousemeat!

Love of my life and I ventured north from No Man's Land to my western Kansas hometown. Had lunch and supper at Aunt's house, where Grandma, 94, is still the matriarch.

Turkey, mashed tators, ham, farm-grown sweet corn, sweet tators, homemade bread, a cream-cheese desert my love made that I actually adored (not much of a sweet eater, myself), punkin pie, punkin rolls, other assorted treats I didn't touch.

Shouldn't have even eaten supper, if ya wanna know the truth. But I did. Slepp like a baby last night, too. :-)

Y'all have a fantabulous weekend.
