Make a joyful noise

Whap! Upside the head with a meme tag, from Tech.

THE SEARCH FOR JOY

Search your blog for the word "joy" used in the context of "happiness." If you cannot find the word in your weblog, you may use any of the select list of synonyms below.

joy, amusement, bliss, cheer, comfort, delectation, delight, ecstasy, elation, exaltation, exultation, exulting, felicity, gaiety, gladness, glee, good humor, gratification, happiness, hilarity, humor, jubilance, liveliness, merriment, mirth, pleasure, rapture, regalement, rejoicing, revelry, satisfaction, wonder

If your weblog does not include a built-in search engine, then you can use Google to search it only for the word you wish to find.

If you've found the word and it was not used facetiously or sarcastically, good for you. All you need to do is link to your earlier entry, and write a few words about that joyous moment.

If, however, you have no joy (whole words only) in your weblog, you must dig deep in your soul and find something wonderful in your life right now. One little thing that fills you with warmth, that bubbles you over with quiet happiness, or tickles you with its good-hearted hilarity, or makes you glad you just took a breath, and are getting ready to take another.

It doesn't have to be anything big. A smile someone gave you; your cat on your shoulder; the way the light angles through your window and casts rainbows on your floor. All it has to be is something genuine, something real, something that matters to you.

Because we all need joy in our lives, and need to take the time -- from time to time -- to recognize it. And sometimes, we need to pass it on.

Even if we're a big pain in the ass when we do.

When you've dealt with your own joy, pass the quest on to five other bloggers.

(ALL: FEEL FREE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION HERE.)

First, the five I'm going to pass it on to:
1. AE at Arse Poetica
2. Russian Violets
3. Pecheur at Crushed Leviathan
4. Pastor Timothy
5. TugboatCapn at Trucker Philosophy

Heh-heh, "joy" popped up in a comment by Trixie on the infamous "Jesus is a liberal" post. (The comments are excellent reading, still.) It was a long comment, but here is the joyful part:

Philippians 2:1-4:
1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Cool. Thanks, Tech.

Comments:
When I was in high school I knew a girl named Joy. She was full of humor and delightful cheer, so much so that just being around her provided an enormous amount of satisfaction and happiness. She wasn’t such a good looking girl that she would bring exaltation or elation just by her looks, but she was of a certain disposition that her felicity brought much gladness and gratification to a number of young men in the school. They would often leave her presence with jubilance at the pleasure and delectation that her inspired rapture induced. She gave great comfort and often even bliss to these dudes with her good cheer.

Joy belonged to the Glee Club and sang with a liveliness and gaiety that fill the auditorium with merriment and amusement. The teachers would often speak of Joy with regalement because she filled their hearts with exultation and her manner was an exercise in hilarity. The very site of her often filled the hallways with mirth as she floated down them rejoicing at her good fortune in life.

Joy was a wonder indeed.

You know what? Come to think of it, I knew a girl by the name of Joy, too, in Head Start! (Summer 1970, before it went year-long: CHANGED MY LIFE -- first encounter with people unlike myself).

Anyway, Joy had a crush on me and demonstrated it by bringing me cookies! And cakes! And slices of pie! And other sweets!

We laughed about that all the way through school: 12 years, in the same town, in the same school system, with the same kids -- the way it should be. :-)

A joyful memory, that.

I do hope that at some point in your aquaintence with Joy that you indulged in a revelry that led to ecstacy. OK, now I got the two I missed before.

Drlobojo, I am fairly thick-headed sometimes. I just now got your adjectivitis.

I expect a record low turnout for today's blog. It's like the news business:

A newspaper full of good news won't sell. A blog on a joyful topic won't attract many comments.

Feel free to prove me wrong, y'all, y'all cynical bastages! ;-)

None of the words in the list are in my blog, but it's easy to say what my joy is--my niece, who is almost five months old. She recently discovered her toes and, in the phenomenally flexible way of all babies, likes to chew on them. She can also roll over, though she isn't as enamoured of that trick as she is with her toes. Most amazingly, she is an incredibly happy baby. We take her on walks, to restaraunts, and wherever else we're going, and she just looks around with her big blue eyes, drinking in everything. She's a marvel.

I just have to post, but only to say this to ER: By overJOYed by your blog, not by the number of hits. Get over yourself, dude. Sheesh!

:-)

It's not the number of hits, per se. It's the level of discourse that ensues.

Bite me, Teditor, he said joyfully. :-)

It's not the number of hits? Let me take you back a couple of hours: "I expect a record low turnout for today's blog."

Yeah, you can paint it any color you wish, ER, it's still crimson and cream -- OU fans only care about one thing, and if they don't get that one thing, they'll cry all the way home. You want a buncha hits, and if you don't get 'em, you'll throw a blog version of a hissy. Sheesh!

OK, did I offend a bunch of people or just ER? It's all in fun. ER knows I worship the ground he walks on. I'm just trying to get his hit total up so he doesn't wet himself.

But comparing him to an OU fan might cause such an effect anyway.

:-)

(Hello. This is a deskmate of ER. He keeled over and is having some form of convulsions under his desk. After looking at the last thing he read, I see why. The mere suggestion that ER -- or "E," as we like to call him -- is a fan of ou apparently was enough to send him over the edge. Hope you're happy. -- Friend of ER)

Well, E.R., I don't know what's wrong with your readers, but the folks who have been by MY blog really like sharing their joy. Neener neener.

Well, the last couple of days haven't been much fun. For that reason, I wasn't going to comment. About an hour ago, however, my wife e-mailed me some pictures of my boys dressed up for Halloween. She had some Halloween cards made up from one of 'em. I got to tell you - it was a much needed jolt of joy. It brought a smile to my face. My little one is dressed as a lizard and his big brother is going to be a frog. As much a bother as kids can be sometimes (especially when they're sick, as mine are now), they really are 'bundles of joy'.

That comment from the so-called "deskmate of ER" is suspect. ER is a big ole boy and I think he would take up the whole desk and so I don't see how anyone else could get up there for mating purposes ... :)

But I'm not asking for proof of such an event!!! No photos please I'm begging you NO PHOTOS!!! :) (Yeah, ER, I got my smart-ass on today. And it's quite fetching.)

Hey, I could make another comment and drive up that counter. And all the people shouted amen!

I got to have caffeine today. Glorious, lovely caffeine! I'm not supposed to, but it was served and I had it and had it so that it knew it had been had!

I wonder how long I can comment like this before the ER rouses his weary head to reply.

You know, it's like potato chips (or potatoe chips if you spell like Gore). You just comment a few times and then you find you can't stop and you're filling the comment block with word after word after word until the blog is bloated with words and then it needs to burp and say excuse me.

Well, just one more, and that will be it. Just so I can roll that comment counter around 20 and bring a smile to ER's sad face. Rejoice, little ER, your counter is turning!

Tech, you crack me up. Got busy foir a couple of hours and you take over! :-)

Rem, glad you found joy in yer young'uns!

Timothy, Kiki, likewise! I'm kinda foind of toes my own self, which is why I got real down when that dang spider bit me on one awhile back.

M.Baskin Robbins? You lurking? Whatter you joyful for today??

Just wanted to make sure that when you ran the word search you hit a 100%. I know how you like to score those high numbers and all.
Also I was estastic to be able pen an Ode to Joy, that corresponded to your needs today.
Many of my little humors have often resulted in the blank stares that your initial silent paralelled.

As anyone who reads my silliness over at my place knows, I'm currently in love. Her middle name happens to be 'Joy' as well, by the by.
And on an entirely different level, though most of the news of the last week has been bad, it would seem that my daughter (whose middle name is 'Jubilee", by the by) might very well be moving to my side of the mountains.
This happens due to her mother's marriage of the last ten years splitting up, which is not a good thing per se, but I love my daughter, and the chance to be closer to her brings me tons of the stuff we call joy.
'Jubilation'? We'll see.

Last night, the Lady MacBeth said to me, "You're more handsome each and every day I know you.", which is one of the nicest things a lady has ever said to this particular flawed being.
Yeah. Screw it. I'm in love.

Good for you, Rich!

I my own self have been known to be a romantic sap. :-)

I'm working on my response right now, ER.

How about them Astros?

Guess all them Cardinals fans'll have to wait another year before they can try to break the will of the baseball gods and Don Denkinger.

Kansas City Royals, 1985 champions
Boston Red Sox, 2004 champions

I searched my blog for the word joy and found that in my post about great movie lines from Cool Hand Luke, there was no mention of joy, but in the code for the picture i added to the post of the girl washing the car contains the name joy harmon, the actress that played her.

Also, another post I did about the silly things that celibrities say, the search brought up Joy Behar.

ER, wonderful meme, and thanks for tagging me with it! Even though I somehow snuck in a happy post just under the wire (woohoo!), I know how rare an occurrence that is. I was not expecting v. many, if any, posts to come up w/ "joy" in them. Color me surprised. I have 30 posts w/ the word joy! Actually, most of those seem to include variations of "enjoy" and "joyfully," though I did have a post titled "Happy Happy Joy Joy," which was about the announcement of Stephen Colbert's new show.

I thought 'bliss' might be the more common word, but I would have thought wrong. Only 1 post. Funny that.

Of the other words, 'cheer' yielded the largest # of hits at 14, including one called "Cheery Chums and Chimichurri," all about a party my pals and I threw following our trip to Argentina. Thanks for reminding me about that one. Definitely a joyous occasion (travel + shindig)!

Though my writing about good news just yesterday was a total fluke and probably uncharacteristic, I'm grateful for the meme, because I do want to remember the joy, cheer, amusements, and wonder. Thanks for the opportunity, ER!

Regards to Ice-T, surely a provider of much joy. =)

You knew joy would not appear on my site, didn't ya?? hehehe

I have taken your assignment and will begin composition. I will do it offline, then publish it next.
