Hounds of the ER household!
Bailey, the po' white trash weinie dog! As we were leavin' the family, um, "compound" where we picked up this critter, ol' ER observed: "If yer dogs got papers, and yer kids don't, you might be a redneck." He's now 5.
Riker, the regal Pembroke Welsh Corgi! (My stepdog. Dr. ER had had this critter, the sweetest dog I have ever, ever known, a year or two before we met. He's now 10.)

Dang it ER, you must be an erudite redneck. A more proper redneck would have dogs to go get some victals with and/or someth'n' to do some herdin'.
I'm down to two labs, a border collie (who ain't got nothin' to chase 'cept kids anymore), and a mixed shepherd. I had to give up the hounds when the kids arrived and the way they've come down on those of us who run (or used to run) dogs down here (FL), I don't know that I'll ever start another pack.

Hoo hoo, Rem, I can't speak for the huntin' and herdin' talents of the po ' white trash weinie dog, but corgis are fine herders. Sheep, in Wales.
In fact, when Bailey was a little bitty redneck pup, Riker would herd him all over the back yard, back in Texas.
Oh, and watch out. Dr. ER said, when told of yer observation of the corgi: "Don'tcha go makin' fun of my boy. Corgis are considered magical."
:-)
And now, I am fixin' to exercise a microeconomic version of corporate relief efforts:
I am goin' to see the Oklahoma RedHawks, OKC's triple-A farm team of the Texas Rangers, play their last home game this aftternoon. The price of admission is bottled water, for Gulf Coast relief.
So, I will go do something I was going to do anyway, using resources I already had, redirected for the common good. All of which is an example of how the people of this here country do find ways -- even little ways -- to help as we go on with life.
The only difference is I don't have any stockholders to splain my redirection of resources to, and I don't have any lobbiests to help me get a tax break for doin' so, and except for mentioning it here, I don't have any PR-marketing firm to splash my donation all over TV and the papers to attract the good will of the populace.
Eh. :-)
And if any of you anonymouse jerks want to try to suggest a little water for a ballgame is my only contribution, well, you'd be wrong.
(See how easy it is to get trapped in their vicious cycles? I'm damned if I talk about giving, and I'm damned if I don't. Feh.)

Enjoy the game! (BTW you get the cheap seats with the water, but what the heck, you'll still get to see the game.) I went Friday night and MAN was it a welcomed reprieve from the crazienss, you know, "out there."
Love the dogs! It's fun to finally see what they look like!

Dr. er,
Sorry bout your dog. I've had tears several times when they show dogs tied up on porches in New Orleans with water up to the top step. I haven't seen any cats, I guess they could go from tree to tree and probably in Utah by now!

Riker and Bailey, woohoo! Them's some fine critters. Lookit the little redneck weiner dog just chowing on that big ol' bone! Ha! And Riker is one elegant beast, it's true.
Dr ER, I am so, so sorry to hear about Beignet. My heart goes out to you.

Dr. ER,
We sure can form some strong attachments to our critters. I had an old pointer that I had to have put down about a year ago. As bird dogs go, she was below average, but she was a family pet first, and a hunting companion second. The vet I use is 20 miles off. I don't know which was the longer 20 miles - going or coming back. Last year was the first in several years that I didn't do any upland hunting. Someday I'll get me another pointer, but even a year later, it hurts too much to try and replace her right now. I don't even want to think about what it'll be like when my best retriever goes.

I just have to add that Doxies are also great hunters.... of mice and rats, of which any self respecting redneck home has very few of because of all the "barn" cats!!
I have two shelter dogs -- a smart, funky little mix who suffers from severe guilt (despite 6 years of total love and acceptance) and a head-injured, socially-retarded whippet who's probably purebred but also dumb as a rock.
I like corgis too. Smart and cute.

Toad, I might have you wrong, but aren't probably for gun-control laws. I lean against them, for the most part, although I don't want to see aautomatic, or even semi-automatic weapons hung over the door of every house in the land.
How dio you feel about dog-control laws? What do you do to make absolute sure your pit bull -- I assume that's what you mean -- will NEVER eat some toddlers face off.
I admit these are loaded questions. If I could wave my magic wand and make every single pit bull and chow disappear, I would.
