Decadron phosphate

Any of y'all nursin' types -- and I know at least two of ya are out there, :-) -- want to boil this down to brass tacks for me, I'd be much obliged. This is what I got shot with in the buttock: Decadron phosphate.

Comments:
I'm not a nurse (but nearly all the other women in my family are.) I have taken steroids before. The explanation I got was that it keeps the cell walls from breaking down -- which is what happens in a fiddleback bite that causes the necrosis in the middle of the bite.
I want to see what the nurse folks tell you too!
