Happy in Jesus redux

This post is solely for anyone who cares to leave further comment in response to the earlier post, "Happy in Jesus or gay in church."

My home computer -- and I am fixing to be at home -- will not let me open the comments section on the original post.

This is neither encouragement nor discouragement to continue to discussion under "Happy in Jesus or gay in church." Just me tryin' to work around an apparent Blogger glitch. :-)

A priest, a rabbi and a hooker walk into a bar ...

and......?

They ordered drinks. Why else do you go into a bar?

There are a lot of ways to go with that beginning of an old joke, but I'll keep it clean and keep it right there. :-)

ER, I likes it when you're funny.

Naw; you know the real punchline, don't you? It's actually one of two. The bartender says either:
"What is this, a joke?", or
"Get the fuck outta here."
I didn't go check everyone's responses to the initial posting. I guess I just want to go on record as saying that yes, there is specifically a biblical proscription against socket fucking socket, plug fucking plug. It's in Leviticus, apparently. But mind you, more than one of my Christer friends has pointed out to me that the Old Testy is meaningless, since Jesus came along and said that God's love is bigger than Mosaic law, for starters, and bigger than Bronze Age Jewish tribal taboos. Nonetheless, they keep on trotting out that Leviticus thing, and continue wearing polyester/wool blends, eating shellfish and failing to impregnate theri dead brother's wives.
jesus wept.

Meaningless? No.

Christ, they say, fulfilled the law.

BTW, rich, there's a "fuck tax" on this blog. Let's see, you owe me at least three more thoughtful comments, one for each F-bomb. :-)

If "gay marriage" laws are classified legally the same as laws that "allow" or do not prohibit mixed-race marriages, then it's larger than a state's rights question.

If gay marriage" laws are classified like other laws that govern behavior, such as whether you can buy liquor at the Walgreen's -- yes in New Mexico, no in Oklahoma -- then it's a state question.

But, states, by compact, have agreed to recognize marriage licenses granted by all other states -- just like they do driver's licenses. So, if a gay marriage is formalized by a state-issued marriage license, then the question may be moot.

I really don't care about "tough luck" of peopel being born in this state vs that state. I mean, I guess I do care. But fundamental questions about how these 50 republcs get along with one another and their power and responsibilities relative to the Big Republic for Which We Stand are more important to me that people's feelings and ease of life.

Laws are not always unfair. Life is unfair and laws are an attempt to deal with that cold hard fact.

Which is why -- and here I am trying to snaek this in past Bitch, Ph.D. -- I think that if abortion remains legal, if should be up to the states to make the call. I don't think it's too much to require a woman who wants an abortion to go to a state where most of the people don't think it's morally wrong.
