Overheard in the ER household VI

Dr. ER: "We just ordered Dale Jr. and Dale Sr. baby clothes for (K) and (B's) baby boy-to-come. ... (Bird) and I are going to the shower on Saturday. I wish I could find some more NASCAR baby keys; Wal Mart doesn't have them anymore.

"Now, they're not big NASCAR fans, but I must do my best to ensure that their kid is brought up properly :-) (B) will get a kick out of it."

Yet another reason why I love the highly educated but down-to-earth She Who Is My Wife. :-)

Comments:
Just call her the NASCAR godmother. :)

Brainwashing a child to like NASCAR is not a nice thing to do to parents who might not care for things that go fast and turn left.

Haaaa! I get on here because Teditor makes me laugh!

Ha! Wrong blog, Teditor. Go to http://bitchphd.blogspot.com and jine in on the discussion about whether kiddoes whould be dressed accordin' to their gender or just left to their own devices as they figure themselves out.

Notice how ThePress was mean to Teditor just then?? :-)

Smile when ya say that, Anon! Oh, you did. :-)

Look, I don't want to get involved in 100 freakin' messages on that blog. Geez.

Educating and sharing your love of things is one thing. Works well for the ER family, because Bird and Dr. ER love NASCAR racin'. Fine. Wunnerful. Fantabulous.

I'd hope any child I might ever have would be just as loony about the Chiefs and the Wildcats as me. And I'll start the brainwashing early in the crib with Chiefs clothes for Sundays and Wildcats clothes for Saturdays.

My friend in the K.C. area has done the same, naming his son after a famous NASCAR track, for goodness sake. But "Talladega" sure is a cutie.

But if'n you were to buy my baby NASCAR stuff, I'd likely haul it to the trash. That's all. If he gets old enough that he wants to go to a race, I'd probably try to take him. But until he replaces the arrowhead cap with a numbered cap with sponsors decals, I'll brainwash him in my own way. :-)

And that, Teditor, is my own point, both here and over at B's place. I am absolutely within my rights to raise my kid as a gun-totin' NASCAR-watchin' free speechifyin' Dem, or Repub, and to make the boys wear boy clothes and the girls wear girls clothes, until they get big enough to make their own dang decisions. Most of the crowd over at B's place, I think, want to just let 'em be what they tend to be genderwise, and otherwise. And I think that's irresponsible. But, that's just me.

But that "turn left" phrase Teditor used was brilliant in its many layers (even if the layers aren't on the track).

Teditor and ER had babies? No one invited me to the showers... and you should just see the cute little things I got 'em...

I do have a (Baby) Bird! And she ain't too old to get parented!

Bearded monkeys don't count as babies, Trix. But they'd be cute bearded monkeys.
