Heather's mommies

Moments ago, for the first time, I picked up and glanced through the incredibly controversial children's book, "Heather Has Two Mommies."

In one of the drawings, one of Heather's mommies is wearin' a T-shirt that says "NO NUKES."

I'm thinkin' if the artist hadda put the "mommy" in a shirt that had a 4-H emblem on it, or, oh, a John Deere logo or something -- maybe a Bass Pro Shops shirt -- some of this controversy mighta been averted.

He said, tongue in his cheek.

I'm just sayin'.

Comments:
You only mentioned the T-shirt of one "mommy." Are we correct in assuming the other "mommy" was wearing a black leather jacket and, therefore, her shirt was not visible?

I think Mommy 2 has a NASCAR T-shirt.

Well, that woulda changed the whole tone of the book. Woulda made it: "Heather Has Two Mommies: They are all three ways of kin."

Mommy 2 is Mommy 1's daughter, but they have the same daddy, is that what you're saying?

No. The mommies are cousins! So Heather has a biological mommy, plus a mommy-cousin once removed! Or somethin' like that. And the extended family has a whole passel of uncle-daddies and cousin-mamas and kissin' cousins and sech.

Ohhhh. And I thought I was bad since my family tree has turned into a stump.

Here's the puzzle:

Who is Heather's daddy?

I'm thinkin' it's her grandpa. Which would make him Heather's grandpa-daddy, Mommy 1's husband-daddy and Mommy 2's uncle-pa-in-law!

My head hurts!! My head hurts!!!

All righty.Well, E.R., we are awaiting. Spill it!

D'you know, just for the sake of perspective, our best friends here are a lesbian couple with two kids and one on the way. We swap babysitting with 'em.

B, Dr. ER has a colleague of the "two daddies" variety in D.C. that she is always reporting good parenting from.

Good. Then presumably you know that gay couples with kids aren't just cartoon characters and ludicrous freaks of nature. I wasn't sure.

I consider gay parents no more cartoon characters or freaks than I am. The Redneck Bible: "All are f----- up and fall short of the glory of God."
