70 percent ain't a minority

Swiped from Poison Pero, who generally is about as far to the right of me as Bitch, Ph.D. is to the left of me.

Originated at World Net Daily, which I know nothing about, trustworthywise or political leaningwise. (But this is only slightly about politics.)

For discussion purposes:

A new poll reveals seven of 10 Americans believe the terror detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp are being treated "better than they deserve" or "about right."

Read all about it.

Now, that majority doesn't make it right. Just something to think about. Somewhere between "kid glove" treatment and lining them all up and shooting them -- there's an answer. But damned if I know what it is.

B and I took over the previous thread. I want to know that others think. Y'all come.

Comments:
I believe that's very close to the percentage of Americans who think Saddam Hussein was directly involved with 9/11.

Here's an answer I can live with.

Hamid Karzai says he wants them back in Afghanistan. Then we should load 'em the hell up and turn them over to the Afghanistan government and be done with them.

Some of them will immediately take up arms, and they will be shot.

THAT's what I meant, by the way, with my "give them a head start" rant, not "shooting them in the back."

I don't know about the Rasmussen report or how the poll was conducted. But another poll on their page says 79 percent say "No English, No Citizenship." I would like to know who was surveyed and how the questions were asked.

It appears there were three distinct categories on the Gitmo poll. The 70 percent do not belong in one reporting category.

I guess my reaction is I'm not terribly impressed or swayed by this "70 percent" bunk. Even if the poll is conducted under the best conditions and somehow is an "accurate" representation of the U.S.' opinion, it doesn't make depravity OK on either side of this war. And on this, I dont' think any single poll will ever change my opinion. Wrong is wrong. Even in war. Even when "they" started the war. (And please. Yes. Let's return this war to attacking the true enemy and not the politically expedient enemy.)

I generally don't trust polls, but I like the results of this one. Of course, that doesn't mean it's accurate. It just means exactly what I said. I like it!
On a side note, ER, I do wish you'd take it easy on my friend Pero. Just because he is ultra conservative doesn't mean he's a bad guy. I like both of you equally.

It's not Pero's ultra conservatism that ruffled my redneck feathers. It was what I consider his misunderstanding of what the Pepsi gal was trying to get across. I don't think anyone who knows how to read and comprehend could come away from that thinking that what she meant was that the US is giving "the finger" to the world. What she was saying is that lots of people in the world look at this coujtry right now and see one big F--- You. And I can see why they do.

But actually, I don't necesarrily think it's a bad thing that they do. Because that's pretty much the way I feel about much of the rest of the world: They can F--- off. But Pero killed the messenger -- and that is usually the recourse of one who doesn't care to engage the message. ...

Listen, I heard something once that I still believe. On 9/12, the world feigned sympathy and empathy for the US -- because we were on our knees. Then, we got up, staggered around punch-drunk, manage to kick the Taliban's ass, and the world starts getting nervous about us. Then, because the world -- our world -- HAD changed, the president decided to kick Saddam's ass -- and throw the first punch, and then all the rest of them. Bully good, as far as I'm concerned.

Syria next.

But pay attention -- and engage the discussion, not the discusser. To myself, too. So, if I unkindly or unnecesarioy picked on Pero, I apologize.

OK. Once again, I've let my inner redneck overtake my outer erudition. Sigh. Not Syria.

Not yet.

But use real professional soldiers. Not the hometown boys and girls who signed up to fill sand bags and direct traffic after a storm.

And use enough of them. But not girls.

And here, B's head explodes.

Hey, I'm rambling 'cause I'm off for a few days ... woo hoo.

Since you're off, you probably haven't seen this, but (of course) I wanted to bring it to your attention:

U.S. acknowledges torture at Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan.

Police brutality sucks. But it happens sometimes when trying to control an out-of-control crowd. ... i think i'm just violent by nature. I just had to use all my self control not to kick the ass of a completge stranger here in this hotel in amarillo, texas. i mean, he was talking smack, for no reason. but then i'm full of beefsteak and whiskey and good beer ... grrr, i want to blog but this damn laptop kryboard is so litrtle i casn bareluy stand to rein inb my big ol sloppy typin enuf to type this...
