What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

Wonder how Pecheur would do?

Comments:
Heck, I ain't got no Yankee in me. I've don taken this her test one time but let me go at it agin and i'll sher post the results fer ya. What I don't like is ya can't score 100% Dixie. or at least I didn't.

I notice ole Nick Tope here has a little Yank blood in him. And he ain't got a dad burn bit of Dixie. ER, whatchu doin' hang out with a Carpet bagger like 'at?

Pecheur:
Nick IS a carpetbagger, and I'm almost positive I was the first person to ever look 'im in the eye and call 'im such -- back in the early-mid-90s -- and I might very be the ONLY person to ever have done so. But he is my friend. I take great comfort in that, and I hope he does too. Makes me think of the soldiers on both sides of the Late Unpleasantness who suspended their professional hostilities long enuf to swap tobacco for coffee, and to share prayer, or to hand off letters back home, before takin' up arms yet again to follow orders for honorable causes that were totally at odds.

do you have any idea where in the united states one might find people who think that 'mary', 'marry', and 'merry' are homonyms? that's a place i would like to avoid, if at all possible.

Uh, Gem. Right here. "Mary," "marry" and "merry" all do sound alike. How do y'all say them out there? Seriously. Spell them phonetically. ... But then, around here, "mare" and "mayor" sound alike. ...

OK, this thing's pretty well faked up. No way would I have just 5 percent Midwestern and 15 percent Dixie, save the fact I've been listenin' to E.R. too dadgum long.

And I'll admit that according to this bastardized testing scheme, I have 0 percent Yankee. But that doesn't mean I don't plan on tormenting our host with the fact that he tweren't really confederate either. :-)

Nick,

It's all good. if you and ole Hanity are palin around I guess you OK. Just glad to see someone out der keeping ole ER straight.

Thanks.

Well, heck far, Teditor. All of us gotta speak sommers around 60 percent general American English or we couldn't communicate atall!
