So it's come to this: Gomer Pyle and Barney Fife, running into circles, colliding into each other. Aren't we a pitiful people?

Actually it isn't pitiful. It's a brave man trying to do what he can to save a life. What's pitiful is you referring to a decorated hero as Gomer Pyle. Besides blogging about it, what have you done one way or another? At least he is attempting some action.

Jake, dude. Benedict Arnold was a decorated hero -- and a traitor. George A. Custer was a decorated war hero -- and a megalomaniacal buffoon. Oliver North is a decorated hero -- and well, he was an outlaw.

Try again. "Decorated war hero" don't mean much outside of an actual field of battle.

Oh, and Gomer Pyle was a sweet, lovable but naive guy. Barney Fife now, he was a headcase.

Jake, I don't know you any more than you know me. All I know about you is that you're someone who is highly charged on this issue who has come to my friend's blog and carpet bombed virtually everyone in a frenzy. Your apparent contempt is doing a lot more to discredit your position on self determination and affirmative death than anything about the Schiavo case ever could. That "what are YOU doing about it" argument is tiresome and irrelevant at best. Unless you've walked in my shoes, you have no idea.

And your apparent and undeserved contempt for Bo Gritz shouldn't undermine my opinion of your comment? Goose for gander, Ms. Trixie. As for carpet bombing you seem to be doing that all on your own - calling names and treating Gritz's sincere effort with contempt. If I show contempt perhaps we could look at what prompted it - this type of overblown statement: "Your apparent contempt is doing a lot more to discredit your position on self determination and affirmative death than anything about the Schiavo case ever could." Really? My comments on this blog are doing more than the Schiavo case? Even though the Schiavo case is reported on national media and my comments here are read by a handful of people? Amazing that my power is that great. You would have thought I could have got Kerry elected.

You want to make uninformed statements. You certainly have the right to do so. Just as I have the right to challege them as long as this blog remains a public forum. Misinformation and illogic cannot be allowed to stand if we are to ever find our way clear of this national swamp.

Finally "what are you doing about it" is only tiresome and irrelevant to someone who isn't doing anything about it. You're right. I haven't walked in your shoes. But I don't think I will ever want to.
